The Town Board majority has voted against a public hearing on the new Highway Garage.

 

If you believe you should have a say about how millions of your tax dollars will soon be spent, come to Town Hall and speak up. Public Meetings will be held Tuesdays, July 1st and July 8th at 7:30pm.

We fully support the dedicated and hard-working members of our Highway Department but the new garage plan has PROBLEMS...

Linden Ave. Middle School

Like the rest of the community the Red Hook School administrators and teachers are trying to work with the new problems the district is facing. With new development there is additional enrollment. Much funding has been already been cut and the increasing burden has the potential to jeopardize the education of our children and increase our taxes. The alignment and cooperation of the school and the community officials is imperative to create solutions to this situation.

Red Hook is a town of more than 10,000 residents located about 100 miles north of New York City. As such, the population is growing steadily with a lot of the development tucked away in,the woods on large lots.  We have developed a Comprehensive Plan and an Open Space Plan, both of which stress the importance of developing land around the two villages and several hamlets. However, the Zoning Code allows single lots and multi-house developments throughout the Agricultural/Residential areas. This zone is a large part of the town and contains most of the farms. A potential build-out developed by our County Planning Department shows it almost completely dotted with three acre lots.

Historically, an uneasy relationship has existed between Red Hook and industry.  Beginning with the formation of Hudson Valley Green (in opposition to the proposed nuclear power plant), followed by the outcry over the St. Lawrence Cement Plant and the ongoing PCB dredging controversy with GE, we have found the collective will to stand up and set limits on the impacts large corporations have in our area.  RedHookConcerns is focused on the sensible developement of local businesses that bring money back into our local economy.
