Town Plans Multi-Million Dollar Garage without a public hearing

DID YOU KNOW Red Hook is planning to build a new Multi-Million Dollar Garage with your tax dollars—and without a public hearing?

Town Plans Multi-Million Dollar Garage without a public hearing

Red Hook Town Garage

The Town Board majority has voted against a public hearing.

If you believe you should have a say about how millions of your tax dollars will soon be spent, come to Town Hall and speak up. Public Meetings will be held Tuesdays, July 1st and July 8th at 7:30pm.

We fully support the dedicated and hard-working members of our Highway Department but the new garage plan has PROBLEMS:

May Contaminate Our Drinking Water

The proposed site is located directly over Red Hook's water source.  The wells that serve thousands of Red Hook residents with their drinking water are just a few hundred feet away.  Studies show a highway garage over our water supply presents a serious risk of accidental contamination.

Too Expensive

The Town Board is moving ahead with plans for a new garage with no cost estimates —current "guess-timates" put project costs at millions over original estimate of $1.5 million.

Will Hurt Business

Current plans are to build in the heart of Red Hook's prime business district —with the potential to severely damage Red Hook's growing business community and cost taxpayers future business   tax revenues and jobs.

There Are Better Locations

Other locations are available that may save us money, have no negative impact on business, keep our drinking water safe, and be better for highway operations.

LET'S WORK TOGETHER to help our Highway Department with a better, safer, less expensive garage:

  1. COMPLETE the study of alternative sites over the next few weeks so we can make an informed decision about the best location.
  2. COOPERATE with Villages and State efforts to save tax dollars and improve operations and service to the public.
  3. INCLUDE Red Hook residents in the decision: It's our money and our future: the Town Board should listen to everyone before risking it!
YOUR VOICE MATTERS!

Tell your Town Board to get smart about taxes, safe drinking water and helping Red Hook business:

Attend Town Board meetings Tuesday, July 1st and/or Tuesday, July 8th  at 7:30pm at the Red Hook Town Hall. Each meeting includes brief public comment periods at the beginning and end. We encourage you to attend, raise your concerns, and ask that this issue be put to vote by a public referendum.
